Common Sense Foundation Internship Program

  • The Thomas Paine Public Policy Internship Program. The program is designed to give graduate students and select undergraduates hands-on experience in North Carolina public policy research and political analysis. The program is open to all college and university students in North Carolina in good academic standing. The successful applicant will receive experience conducting in-depth research on policy issues, observing and reporting on the North Carolina General Assembly, and writing articles and research reports for the Foundation's publications. The Foundation also provides a small monthly stipend and letters of recommendation for future employment.
  • Development Internship Program. The Development Intern supports the Development Director on fundraising activities including, but not limited to, grantwriting, direct mail appeals, and event planning.  The Foundation provides a small monthly stipend and letters of recommendation for this internship as well.

Interested applicants should provide a resume and the names and contact information for two references. They should note in their cover letter which internship they are applying for. The internships are open to students in any discipline, from any university or community college in the Triangle area as long as they can demonstrate the necessary qualifications. These include strong written and verbal communication skills, research skills, a passionate interest in North Carolina public policy, a commitment to social change, and an ability to work at least 10 hours a week.

We are not accepting internship applications at this time.
